Maternity Benefit Act, Safety Measure – Press Release 26.02.2018

Forum for IT Employees-Tamilnadu a registered union (Reg.No.3598/CNI) for IT/ITES employees has come to know that the major players like TCS, CTS, WIPRO, INFOSYS, HCL, IBM, ACCENTURE and DXC from Indian IT sector are yet to enforce the recently amended The Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 fully.  FITE wish to bring it to your notice that Indian IT industry is one of big the private sector which has employed around 10 lakhs women employees and their contribution to the economy is significant. Considering the increasing participation of women in the country’s economic activities, The Government of India recently amended The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and announced the benefits are into effective from 1 April 2017.

As per the new Maternity Benefit Act, the following benefits are considered the statutory rights of working mothers and FITE has sent notice to the major IT companies like TCS, CTS, WIPRO, HCL, IBM, INFOSYS, ACCENTURE and DXC Technologies demanding to enforce fully the statutory rights of women employees in their companies. FITE also demands all the IT companies to enforce the following rights of working women:

Free crèche facility by establishments having fifty or more employees either separately or along with common facilities as prescribed in the act and four visits to crèche per day as per section 11A

Mandatory 26 weeks of maternity leave as per the amendment in Section 5(3)

Provision of work from home option after availing 26 weeks maternity leave as nature of work in IT industry is most suitable for work from home and helps working mothers and children during breast feeding period

FITE also demands to ensure safe transport service through employee oriented flexible cab service procedures to women employees during late night work
