Vikatan that voices for the rights of employees illegally terminated by greedy corporates snubs their own employees.
From a small monthly publication that it was when started in 1926, Vikatan group now grown up to one of the biggest corporate media house with 26 organizations spanning across monthly, weekly magazines to advertising that makes profit in billions. Also it is the widely read weekly magazine across Tamil Nadu Behind this radical growth lies the years of hard work of employees and Vikatan too can’t deny this fact.
For several years all the publications of Vikatan group were carried out at a press in Ambattur and it publishes 50 lakhs copies monthly. Around hundreds of workers were permanently employed at this printing press
What’s happening recently?
In an effort of cost cutting measure, Vikatan gradually reduced operations in their Ambattur press and outsourced their publication works to low cost third party For this purpose another press has been built in Trichy and temporary contract workers has been employed there.
Consequently, hundreds of workers presently working in Ambattur has been forcefully terminated by the management. When management tried to remove the unpublished paper bundles from the press, the workers resisted. The workers protested against this and moved to labour welfare court seeking explanation on them being denied to work.
Vikatan management has threatened and forced around 100 workers from ambathur printing press to quit. It stopped giving work for remaining workers those resisted to resign. When the management tried to take away the paper bundles which was not printed, the workers protested for non assignment of work. They raised dispute in labor department also.
In labour office, Vikatan management falsely accused the employees of staging sit in protest inside the office. On this basis labour welfare officer advised the employees to withdraw the protest and return work. But the management inappropriately using this false accusations to proceed legally with the termination of employees citing that they staged protest.
Of late the growing trend of introducing low cost contract workers and decreasing the permanent jobs to increase the profit margin has been reported among the world wide corporates. The Vikatan press workers problem is also a part of this trend. Without any proper business reasons shutting down of the press and not considering the livelihood and future of the employees who worked relentlessly for years towards the empowerment of the company is not only against the workers but also against the law.
Vikatan media has been identified as progressive platform by lending their support to the oppressed voices of the community from the fishermen, to the workers and the farmers. Is it fair for such a proclaimed progressive media to suppress the voice of their workers? Is it progressive to conspire against the workers who dedicated their lives for the betterment of the company?
Vikatan has been consistently opposing the exploitation of workers and illegal terminations by the companies in the name of increasing profit margin. It would be immoral for Vikatan to act against their workers and abandon them for mere profits.FITE notes that these kind of anti worker activities will tarnish the progressive image of Vikatan.
FITE appeals to the Vikatan management to heed to the reasonable demands of the workers and resolve the issue in the interest of working community.

கார்பொரேட் உலகின் சட்ட விரோத பணிநீக்கங்கள் – விகடன் மட்டும் விதிவிலக்கா என்ன?
1926 இல் சிறிய அளவில் ஆரம்பித்த ஆனந்த விகடன் பத்திரிக்கை, இன்று வார இதழ்,மாத இதழ்,விளம்பரங்கள் என 26 நிறுவனங்களாக வளர்ந்து ஊடகத் துறையில் ஆண்டுக்கு சுமார் 140 கோடி வர்த்தகம் (turnover) செய்கின்ற ஒரு பெரும் கார்பொரேட் நிறுவனமாக மாறி இருக்கிறது. அத்தோடு தமிழ்ச் சமூகத்தின் ஒரு முக்கிய முற்போக்கு ஊடகமாகவும் இருக்கிறது. இந்த பெரியவளர்ச்சிக்குப் பின்னால் பல நூற்றுக்கணக்கான தொழிலாளர்களின் உழைப்பு உள்ளது என்பதை யாரும் மறுக்க முடியாது, விகடன் நிர்வாகமும் மறுக்காது.
விகடன் குழும நிறுவனங்களின் அனைத்து அச்சு பணிகளையும் செய்யும் அச்சகம் அம்பத்தூர் தொழிற்பேட்டையில் பல ஆண்டுகளாக இயங்கிக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறது. இதில் நூற்றுக்கணக்கானதொழிலாளர்கள் பல ஆண்டுகளாக நிரந்தர தொழிலாளர்களாக வேலை செய்கிறார்கள். மாதத்திற்கு 50 லட்சம் பிரதிகள் விகடன் குழுமம் வெளியிடுகிறது.
சமீப காலமாக நடப்பது என்ன?
இந்த அச்சகத்தில் செய்யப்பட்டுக்கொண்டு இருந்த வேலைகளை கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக குறைந்த செலவில் செய்து கொடுப்பவர்களோடு ஒப்பந்தம் போட்டு வேலையை முடிப்பது என்றஅவுட்சோர்ஸ் முறைக்கு மாற்றப்பட்டுவிட்டது. திருச்சியில் வேறு ஒரு அச்சகம் தொடங்கப்பட்டு இருக்கிறது. நிரந்தர தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு பதில் ஒப்பந்த தொழிலாளர்கள் பணிஅமர்த்தப்படுகிறார்கள்.
தற்போது அம்பத்தூர் அச்சகத்தில் பணிபுரியக்கூடிய தொழிலாளர்களில் 100 பேர் விகடன் நிர்வாகத்தால் மிரட்டப்பட்டு கட்டாயப்படுத்தப்பட்டு பணி நீக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டு இருக்கிறார்கள்.வேலையை விட்டு போக மறுத்த தொழிலாளர்களுக்கு வேலை அளிப்பதை நிர்வாகம் நிறுத்தி இருக்கிறது. அச்சகத்தில் உள்ள அச்சிடப்படாத காகித பண்டல்களை எடுத்துச் செல்ல நடந்தமுயற்சியை தொழிலாளர்கள் தட்டிக் கேட்டு, ‘நிர்வாகம் தங்களுக்கு ஏன் வேலை தர மறுக்கிறது?’ எனக் கேட்டு போராடி இருக்கிறார்கள். தொழிலாளர் நல அலுவலகத்தில் முறையிட்டுஇருக்கிறார்கள்.
தொழிலாளர் அலுவலகத்தில் நிர்வாகம் அச்சகம் தொழிலாளர்கள் உள்ளிருப்பு போராட்டம் நடத்தியதாக பொய்யான தகவலை கூறி இருக்கிறது. இதன் அடிப்படையில் தொழிலாளர் நலஅதிகாரி போராட்டத்தை கைவிட்டு வேலைக்கு செல்லுமாறு அறிவுரை வழங்கி இருக்கிறார். இந்த அறிவுரை அடிப்படையில் விகடன் நிர்வாகம் முன் அனுமதி இன்றி தொழிலாளர்கள் ‘வேலைநிறுத்தம்’ செய்தார்கள் என்ற பொய்யான காரணத்தை காட்டி சட்ட ரீதியாக அவர்களை பணி நீக்கம் செய்வதை நோக்கி செல்கிறது.
உலகம் முழுவதும் முதலாளித்துவ நிறுவனங்கள் தங்கள் லாப விகிதத்தை குறையாமல் பார்த்துக்கொள்ள குறைந்த செலவில் ஒப்பந்த முறையில் வேலையை முடித்தல் (outsourcing), நிரந்தரதொழிலாளர்களை குறைத்து ஒப்பந்த தொழிலாளர்கள் (contract workers) எண்ணிக்கையை அதிகரித்தல் என்ற முறையை நோக்கி தீவிரமாக நகர்கின்றன. விகடன் நிர்வாகத்தின் அச்சகதொழிலாளர்களின் பிரச்சினையும் இதன் ஒரு பகுதியே.
ஆண்டுக்கணக்கில் இரவும் பகலும் உழைத்த நூற்றுக்கணக்கான தொழிலாளர்களின் வாழ்வாதாரம், எதிர்கால பாதுகாப்பு என எதைப் பற்றியும் எந்த கவலையுமின்றி எந்த நியாயமான காரணமும்இல்லாமல் அச்சகத்தை மூடுவது என்பது விகடன் நிர்வாகத்தின் ஒரு சட்ட விரோத தொழிலாளர் விரோத நடவடிக்கையே ஆகும். விகடன் நிர்வாகத்தின் சட்ட விரோத பணி நீக்க நடவடிக்கைகளை கண்டித்து எ.ஐ.டி.யு.சி (AITUC) யின் தமிழ் நாடு ஜெனரல் ஒர்க்கர்ஸ் யூனியனை சேர்ந்த அச்சக தொழிலாளர்கள் 22.03.2018 அன்று சேப்பாக்கத்தில் பட்டினிப் போராட்டம் நடத்தினர்.
தொழிலாளர்கள்,விவசாயிகள், மாணவர்கள், பெண்கள்,மீனவர்கள் என தமிழ்ச் சமூகத்தின் எந்த மூலையில் இருந்து குரல் எழுந்தாலும் அதற்கு ஆதரவாக குரல் எழுப்பி ஓர் முற்போக்கு ஊடக நிறுவனமாக அடையாளப்பட்டு இருக்கும் விகடன் நிர்வாகம் தனது சொந்த தொழிலாளர்களின் நியாயமான குரலை நசுக்குவது நியாயமா?
விகடனின் வளர்ச்சியில் தங்கள் வாழ்வை கரைத்த தொழிலாளர்களின் வேலையை சூழ்ச்சியாக சட்டத்தின் துணை கொண்டு பறிக்க நினைப்பது முற்போக்கானது ஆகுமா?
நிறுவனங்கள் லாப வெறியில் நடத்தும் தொழிலாளர்களின் சட்ட விரோத பணிநீக்கத்தை, உழைப்பு சுரண்டலை தொடர்ந்து எதிர்த்து வரும் விகடன் அதே லாப நோக்கத்திற்காகநூற்றுக்கணக்கான தொழிலாளர்களையும் அவர்களின் குடும்பத்தையும் நிர்கதியாய் வீதியில் விடலாமா?
எனவே இது போன்ற தொழிலாளர் விரோத நடவடிக்கைகள், விகடன் போன்ற முற்போக்கான ஊடக நிறுவனத்திற்கு அறமாகாது என ஐ.டி.பணியாளர்கள் மன்றம் கருதுகிறது.
விகடன் நிர்வாகம் வாழ்வாதாரத்திற்காக, தங்களின் எதிர்கால பாதுகாப்பிற்காக போராடும் தொழிலாளர்களின் நியாயமான கோரிக்கையை பேசித் தீர்க்க முன்வர வேண்டும் என பைட்தொழிற்சங்கம் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறது.
தமிழ்ச் சமூகத்தின் போராடும் ஜனநாயக சக்திகள் அனைவரும் விகடன் குழும அம்பத்தூர் அச்சக தொழிலாளர்கள் கோரிக்கைக்கு துணை நிற்க வேண்டும் என ஐ.டி தொழிலாளர்களின் பைட்தொழிற்சங்கம் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறது.
