Press Release – IT/ITES companies do not declare special holiday on 12.01.2018

Our organization Forum for IT Employees (F.I.T.E)-Tamilnadu(Reg.No.3598/CNI) have been representing IT/ITES employees in various issues from the employees’ side. We would like to bring it to your kind attention that most of the IT companies are operating today without following the GO published on 11.01.2018. They have forced the employees to work today.

The GO published on 11.01.2018 ordered the industrial establishments operating in Chennai,Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts to declare special festival holiday today (12.01.2018). This GO has come from government on considering the situation of the bus strike and large number of workers from other districts of Tamilnadu migrated to these districts. We see IT companies continuously not following any GO orders from Tamilnadu and continue operate on their own rules and regulations.

Further we wish to bring to your notice about other ways that IT/ITES companies were in violation of Tamil Nadu Governments order. We wish to humbly remind you that NASSCOM approached the Election Commission seeking allowance of “few hours of permission” alone instead of a holiday for employees to cast their vote. IT companies have also forced to work during the natural calamity ‘thane’ cyclone risking the lives of employees.

When former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam passed away and the Tamil Nadu State Government announced a holiday on 16.05.2016 for commemoration across state, many IT/ITES companies violated the order and had their offices open. This unruly practice of noncompliance to Government’s orders by IT/ITES companies had been a continuous affair. The Government and the Labour department apart from declaring holiday should monitor and ensure compliance of all the companies. A complaint to the Labour Secretary regarding this has been raised by our union.

The complaints received from our union members of these companies:
Cognizant Technologies
HCL Technologies
Accenture
Wipro Technologies
DXC Technologies
Sify Technologies
CSS Corp
NTT Data
Infosys

Thanking You,
Parimala, President
