It has been almost a month after the onset of brutal terminations by the TCS. The number of employees who faced the axe at such a short span of time is quite unprecedented. The employees have also responded back in an equally unprecedented way. After initial gatherings in cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai and New Delhi, the Forum for IT Employees had its first victory when it helped a terminated woman employee from Chennai to get an interim stay.
Keeping up the spirits, FITE Delhi Chapter met the few TCSers and other ITians and decided to hold a protest in front of the TCS office near the PTI building in New Delhi. FITE sought police permission for the same. The police refused permission citing the presence of the prohibitory order under Section 144 around the area. Hence, FITE decided to protest in Jantar Mantar.
Yesterday (16-Jan-2015) around 25 TCSers who had been terminated or about to be terminated, sat in Dharna in Jantar Mantar, demanding the Central and State governments to intervene against this unjust, unethical and illegal layoffs. They were holding placards demanding TCS to stop these brutal terminations.
After the protest, the FITE members then went to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan and submitted a petition to the President of India to stop the terminations.
Digvijay, part of FITE Delhi Chapter and who participated in the protest said, “It’s absolutely necessary for us to join together against the brutal sacking that is taking place”. Muthuvel, FITE coordinator for Delhi, said “We will intensify our fight against the unjust terminations. We will be more vociferous in our demands to secure basic rights for IT professionals”
The team is also facilitating discussions between the affected employees and lawyers in New Delhi. FITE has started to spread its wings beyond Chennai.
